The latest Community Health Needs Assessment for the Lord Fairfax Health District identified key areas where population is under served. Among those key areas, access to medical care.
Each year a growing number of area residents in need of health care can not find a ride to their provider. They can not drive or they don’t have access to a vehicle or funds to pay for a taxi or other service. These are seniors, disabled persons, people with ongoing treatment needs and people who live off the beaten path and need door-to-door assistance.
At the same time, the number of local programs able to serve this demographic have shrunk. Today, if a person needs free, door-to-door transportation in the Winchester/Frederick/Clarke/ Shenandoah area, FIA is a good option and the only option.
A 501(c)3 non-profit, FIA is run by one part time Executive Director, one part time Scheduler and 50 volunteers who donate time and gas to make 3000 transports a year linking clients with health services ranging from primary medical to dialysis and cancer treatment.
Through the dedication of a lot of caring people, FIA has been able to sustain itself. Yet the program is stretched thin and chronically under funded. Support is sorely needed not only to maintain, but to allow for more volunteer recruitment to keep up with demand, for more operational resources and to offset volunteer gas expense.
We rely on support from the community we serve and are deeply grateful for anything you are able to give. Please send to Faith in Action, 301 North Cameron Street #104, Winchester, VA 22601-4805 or send donation through PayPal on this page..
